EF學生心得：來自台灣的Patrick在EF愛爾蘭交換學生留學

在EF接受申請海外大使的時候，我們得到了一個學生在申請內容中對疫情下去留學的一些想法和感受。特此分享給大家，希望能夠解答一些現時的疑惑。

一年前，我做了一個特別的決定，那就是“成為國際高中交換學生”。然而，當我還在申請的時候，疫情突然來襲。對於是否還要去愛爾蘭我有所猶豫，但最後我認為去交換一年應該沒有問題，因為EF對於當地的環境和狀況都是仔細監控的，我真的相信他們會給我最好的建議。當我收到郵件被告知已經安排好寄宿家庭的時候，我非常激動。但是COVID-19疫情真的是一個大問題，我開始擔心EF是否會取消這個項目。但最終我還是拿到了機票，順利到達了愛爾蘭。我開始意識到：之前我擔心的其實還好，但另外一件事卻讓我有些著急：我的英語能力。

抵達都柏林後，我開始認識其他交換學生。但因為英文能力不夠，我發現交流總是有障礙。於是我開始努力的練習，包括嘗試與其他交換學生聊天，觀看沒有中文字幕的英語電影，聽英文的歌曲等。這些努力給了我越來越多的勇氣和自信，讓我的英語口語愈來流利，甚至在14天隔離的最後一天，我也可以主動與其他交換生聊天而不再感到緊張。而且，在我到達寄宿家庭後，我開始用英文分享我的故事，問一些關於學校、城鎮和接待家庭的問題。在愛爾蘭交換的第一個月取得的進步讓我感到非常自豪，我相信如果我繼續努力的話，當旅程結束的時候，我可以像當地人一樣說一口流利的英語。我對接下來的9個月在愛爾蘭的生活充滿了期待。

“One year ago, I made a special decision which is to “Becomes an exchange student”. However, when I was processing the application, COVID-19 happened, so I hesitated if I should continue the journey, but at the end I think it is no problem to go on an exchange year because EF is monitoring the situation carefully and I really believe they will give me the best advice. I was super excited when I got the Email said I have a host family, but COVID-19 was such a big issue that I stared to worry if EF will cancel the program. Finally, one day, I got the plane ticket and arrival in Ireland smoothly, I found out one thing: The thing I worried before it’s not worth for me to worry about, there is another thing I should worried: Is my English ability.

After I arrived in Dublin, I started to communicate with other exchange student, When I found out it is very hard for me to chat with other exchange students because my English ability I then started to practice my English very hard, like try to chat with other exchange students, watch English movie without Chinese subtitle and listening to English music and etc. All these hard work gave me the courage and confident to make me to speak English more and more, Even in the last day of the 14 days quarantine, I can take the initiative to chat with other exchange students and didn’t feel nervous. Moreover, after I arrived to my host family, I started to use English to shared my story, and use English to ask so many question about school, the town and the rule of the host family. I’m very proud of the progress I made so far during the first month of my exchange year in Ireland, I believe if I continue all the hard work to practice English, I can speak fluent English just like the native when the journey ends.
